May Meeting
Tuesday, May 1st at 7 PM
Parkway United Church of Christ
2151 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27103
Just a few weeks ago, five members from Triad NOW attended the 62nd UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York City. Part of the fun was that each of us have different issues we’re passionate about – climate change, ending violence against women, developing women leaders, women in the media – so we were attending different sessions and frequently didn’t see each other until dinner and a nightly debrief session! At our May meeting, we’ll share our ‘wow’ moments as well as ideas for Triad NOW and women in the Triad as a result of the multitude of sessions we each attended.
Bowl-a-thon news
Thank you to everyone who came out to bowl last week or who have donated online in our fundraiser for the Carolina Abortion Fund! This organization is helping make sure that abortion remains a woman’s choice, in spite of ongoing efforts to make this option inaccessible. We haven’t quite met our fundraising goal yet, but the Triad NOW team page will stay up until the evening of Monday, April 30th. All donations are most welcome – here’s an example of how that money is spent:
- $10 pays for menstrual products and pain medication after a procedure
- $25 covers the cost of gas for one patient to their appointment
- $75 helps pay for a night at a hotel for a two-day procedure
- $350 pays for a first trimester abortion
Please visit our chapter’s team page and help us reach our fundraising goal!
Primary Election Day is May 8th!
But you don’t have to wait that long – early voting is already underway! Besides convenience and usually shorter lines, one good reason to vote in the primary is to root out any possible issues with your registration. We have several newly-drawn districts in our area, and then there are sometimes bizarre problems that show up – and this will give you time to fix them before the General Election.
Visit your local board of elections for details about one-stop early voting locations, dates and times:

Candidate calling project
Triad NOW members are part of a project through the ERA-NC Alliance to find out which candidates will support North Carolina’s ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. We’re calling every candidate running for the 5th and 13th House District, as well as every candidate running for the state House and Senate who’s district falls within those boundaries. We are also working with a group in the 6th District that offered to make those calls. Want to join us? We’re wrapping up the candidates with primary races right now, but will turn our attention to the General Election candidates after May 8th. Send Audrey Muck an email to get a list of candidates to call, and check the ERA-NC Alliance website for information on how candidates have responded so far.
