In the last 6 months there have been attacks on the basic rights of women to determine when they choose to become pregnant, or when they believe it is in their best interest to terminate a pregnancy. Legislation that severely limits those rights has been proposed throughout the United States. Many of these proposals are in direct conflict with Roe v Wade, the established law that protects a woman’s right to abortion.
Many of these bills have been passed by their state legislatures; some are now being challenged in the courts. Although abortion has not yet been a topic on the debate circuit, it most certainly will become a hot-button issue when the Republicans are on stage with the Democrats. We need to inform the public and the voters about the pernicious, anti-woman, anti-family effects of this anti-abortion legislative movement in our state and across the country.
