Next Meeting: Tuesday, September 4th, 7 pm
Patricia (Trish) Casey, teaches contemporary dance and choreography at the UNC School of the Arts. She invites us to an evening of gentle movement, conscious breathing, simple improvisations, building a sense of identity AND community through movement and gesture, speaking, and taking the time to become present in our own skin with self and with other. Trish received both high school diploma and BFA from the North Carolina School of the Arts in the area of contemporary dance, obtained her MFA from NYU/Tisch School of the Arts and went on to dance in the companies of Pauline Koner, Don Redlich and Marcia Plevin. She has taught in Australia, Mississippi and Texas, ultimately returning to her native Winston-Salem as a full-time faculty member in the School of Dance at UNCSA. She continues to mentor and offer workshops in creative process throughout the States and abroad.
Trish enjoys sharing her knowledge of human movement potential and increasing the respect for and awareness of our bodies-including those outside of the profession of dance artists. Her other areas of study and interest are in the healing arts and, specifically, heart-centered energy work through the cultivation of being present with another. She is spreading her interests in working with people of all ages and abilities to reacquaint them with their bodies, “a certain kind of homecoming,” she says, “to experiment in the landscape of the body (and the emotions) as a place to practice friendliness, compassion, trust and humor. Surely, this is a form of peace-making.”
