In a culture where sexual assault, physical and emotional bullying are rampant and where families live with domestic violence, we see girls become withdrawn, belligerent, and overly sexualized. They may cut themselves, date older men, or get involved with drugs. Their life trauma often leads to the “school to prison pipeline.”
One woman has made it her mission to interrupt this downward spiral and generate school leaders instead!
Joy Nelson-Thomas catapults girls to success with LeadGirls. Our June 4 program will totally captivate members and guests as Joy shares the tender story of saving a 8th grade girl. That experience became the seed of a bigger dream to make a difference in the lives of many girls at risk. Today, Joy is applying for grants and going after major community sponsorship to serve this vulnerable population. More than 300 girls now have a future that wasn’t present before.
